Jon’s Audio Resume Vol. 14: Public Relations Representative

A perfect summation of my time in corporate: Me (left), in an out of focus candid photo, politely listening to someone of prominence whose name I can no longer remember at an event I spent months planning that no one I reported to was happy with.

Welcome to Jon’s Audio Resume, the Jon of All Trades solo exploration of all the weird ass jobs I’ve had in my life. This series runs in chronological order and here is my 14th job.

Job: Public Relations Representative, Noble Energy
Duration: December 2010 – April 2015
Pay: $72,000/yr. + bonus (starting)
Did I get along with my boss(es)? How the hell do I answer this? If you’ve ever worked for a bigass company in a service or support department, you’re reporting to a shitload of people at all times. So here are my responses placed in random order based on the people I worked with/for most: 1. Mostly; 2. Yes, but he was a moron; 3. Absolutely; 4. Yes, but the passive aggressiveness was deeply irritating; 5. I’d say yes, if only because he always had my back from afar; 6. Ambivalent; 7. Best boss of all time; 8. Fuck no; 9. Fuck this guy with a shovel; 10. Great guy, wished I worked with him more.

Here it is, kids. The episode I didn’t think I’d ever do. I spent four and a half years working at Noble Energy as their public relations representative. And since they’ve been acquired and since most of the people I worked with there have moved on anyway, perhaps it’s time to get some of this out there.

As always with these things, I turned the mic on, started talking, and whatever came out, came out. My stream-of-consciousness mode of communicating is pretty profane, so fair warning going in. I didn’t edit the audio, so this is about as honest as I’m going to get. I don’t mention anyone by name because this is about me, and I’m certainly not interested in giving anyone involved here equal time.

I hope you enjoy the show because this will be pretty much all I have to say in any public forum about my time in corporate, good, bad, and/or indifferent.
