Jon’s Audio Resume Vol. 12 – PR Professional

Welcome to Jon’s Audio Resume, the Jon of All Trades solo exploration of all the weird ass jobs I’ve had in my life. This series runs in chronological order and here is my 12th job.

Job: Account Executive/Account Manager – MGA Communications, Inc.
Duration: April 2007 – December 2010
Pay: ~$40,000/yr.
Did I get along with my boss(es)? As I was in my late-20s, I was not the easiest to work with. But yes, all of my direct supervisors were terrific (and I never actually complained about any of them), and the heads of the company were honest, forthright, and fair. Naturally, I still bitched about them constantly, prick that I was.

While this is technically Jon’s Audio Resume Vol. 12, it’s also Episode 201. And I thought it important to kick off this new phase of the show by going back to a beginning.

I tried to get a job at MGA Communications for eight freaking months. I REALLY wanted to work there. It was the first place I found in my post-graduate school search that really spoke to me. So I hounded them until they had an opening, went through three interviews, and finally landed there.

This was the first time I felt like a real grownup. I had my own apartment, I was paying my own bills, got my own healthcare through work, and had this big, important job downtown in the city. I learned a ton at this job, earned some professional chops, and ultimately reflect on it probably more fondly than any other job I’ve ever had.

It’s a pleasure to bring this one to you, and I hope you enjoy it.
